Reflection

-April 8th, 2008

This is Peruvia travel coming back live with Kelsey, Sayeh and Petra. We as a group have learned lots about Peru during this unit. Kelsey has learned lots about the coastal desert and peruvian culture. Petra has learned lots about the siearra mountains and and how fun the activities in Peru are. Sayeh has learned lots about the Montana jungle and she has learned how interesting ancient peruvian culture is. We would like to add some general information about Peru so people wanting to travel there can know more about the country. We would also like to add some more pictures of the culture and the three regions.

Project Evaluation

1. Tell me about your page: What do you like? What are you proud of? What are the highlights?

- We like how our page is colourful and attractive. We are proud of our logo and our jingle. The highlights for us are making the video and editing it.

2. Tell me about your Social Studies Simulation experience: What did you enjoy about it? What did you learn?

- We enjoyed how the experience of the simulation is like real life and we have to make our company appeal to our audience. We learned who our target audience is and how to appeal to them.

3. What challenges did you face? What was difficult? What would you do differently next time?

- We faced challenges when it came to finding activities to do. It was difficult to get together on one day and film. Next time I think we would look for cheaper options.

4. What advice would you give me, so that I could improve the project next time?

- Next time I think you should give us a budget so that it makes it more challenging.

5. How would you compare this socials project to others that you have done?

- This is probably one of the most enjoyable projects we have done because it is interactive and exciting.

6. Final comments?

- We really liked this unit because we got to use the media. We liked filming and using the Wiki.

Petra: I'm sick of taxes (throws bills and sits on couch)

Both: We need a break! (looks at camera together)

Kelsey(angel):Did i hear someone say they needed a break?

Both: Oh Yeah! (looking at camera)

Kelsey(angel): I have an idea, you can go to Peru!

Petra: Why go to Peru?

Sayeh: Yeah why Peru?

Kelsey (angel): Peru is a beautiful country, it is warm, sunny and has lots of interesting history. You guys should go to get a break!

Petra: Yeah we should go and visit for a few days, we can relax and have some fun!

EVERYONE: Peruvia, Peruvia travel our way exploring just like royalty each and every day, hey! (in a line singing) * on hey we swing our arms together*

Petra(transportation fairy): First you will fly through LAN Peru airlines to Lima, The city of Kings! (shows on chart)

Meanwhile there are pictures popping up of the things we are talking about

Kelsey: During the time in Lima you will stay at the La Castellana in Miraflores, a very nice part of Lima.

Kelsey: There are lots of places to go in Lima. You can visit the Lima Cathedral or La Catedral as the locals call it. And don't forget about your family at home, you can pick up some super neat souvenirs like alpaca wool clothing at the Mercado Indio, the Indian market.

Kelsey: Learn how to sandboard in the desert for a whole day. Make sure you pack lots of water 'cos it sure can get hot! (wipes forehead)

Kelsey: Also enjoy a tour of the Pachacamac Ruins just 30km south of Lima, where you will explore the ancient ruins, shrine and sacred memorial. The Pachacamac ruins are named after the earth god from before the Inca people.

Kelsey: Check out traditional, professional Peruvian dancing with live music and Peruvian dishes served.

Kelsey: Peruvia will provide you with a Kia Rio for your stay in Lima, because everyone eeds a stylish set of wheels!

Kelsey: The average temperature for your stay in Lima is about 20.5 degrees celcius. There is lots of crime in Lima so be sure to lock your doors! The water is polluted so don't go swimming, but you can relax on any of beautiful beaches. *

Kelsey: One of the most common things to eat in the coastal desert is fish. The fishing industry is very popular in Lima.

Sayeh(cuisine queen):Peru has a very interesting cuisine. One of Peru's special dishes is Ceviche, raw fish marinated in lime juice and ho peppers served with sweet potatoes and corn. In Lima there are also the everyday Peruvian foods like kid-baby goat, chicken, rice, potatoes and don't forget the Peruvian specialty guinea pig! *

Petra(transportation fairy): Once you are finished visiting the coastal desert region you will take a bus to the sierra mountains

Petra(travel agent 2): During your stay in the Sierra Mountains, you will stay at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. It is also a five star hotel and it is very luxurious too. It has room safety and It is close to the Inca trail. Whenever you get hungry you can go to the restaurant or just order room service.

Petra: One of the must do's in the Sierra mountains is to tour Machu Picchu. If you’re going on the Machu Picchu ride you will need lots of layers of clothing because it's quite cold at the top of the mountain. *

Petra: Peruvia will also take you on complimentary boat ride on Lake Titicaca, or you can just sit on the beach and enjoy the sun if water isn't your thing.

Petra: Lake Titicaca is the highest lake in the world and the largest in South America. It has 41 island. The Uru people still make their boats out of reeds. Wouldn't it be super cool to see that much culture and history! *

Petra: You will also go on the 2 day Inca trail journey. This will take you on the Inca trail and it includes Pervian activities in Cuzco. If you’re going on the Inca trail, bring lots of water and a backpack to put all your things in

Petra: If you want to get somewhere and be on your own you can rent a car for the 5 days you are there.

Petra: In Cuzco its 9 degrees Celsius and sometimes a little bit of rain. So make sure you pack a rainjacket.

Petra(transportation fairy): From the sierra mountains you will then take a bus to your next destination, the Montana jungle

Sayeh(travel agent 3): While in the Jungle you can stay at a hotel named "Hotel Acosta". Another hotel is "Explorama celba top." This hotel has nice air conditioning, private bathrooms, hot water and 2 restaurants.*

Sayeh: The average temperature is very hot, sometimes in the southern jungle climate drops down to about 8-12 degrees celcius
(In May & August).

Sayeh: The activities you can do in the jungle are hiking, exploring, diving, and you can visit Indian villages to learn their history and culture. You can also study flowers and the animals in the tropical rain forest. The food in the jungle is fruit, they eat rats, and many animals are hunted for food, they eat lots of animals/fish. *

Sayeh: And don't worry, Peruvia won't forget to take you to the one, the only, the Amazon river! *

Kelsey: Here is the Peru angel with important things to know.

Kelsey(smart angel): When visiting Peru there are some vaccines that are recommended : Hepititus A., Hepititus B. , Typhoid fever, and rabies. When entering the jungle it is highly recomended that you take malaria drugs other than chloroquine and that you are vaccinated 10 days before entering the jungle.

Petra: WOW that sounds like so much fun!!

Kelsey(angel): I told you!! In Peru you can do ANYTHING!

Sayeh: I so totally want to go to Peru now!

Both: We will definitely book our trip to Peru through Peruvia!
